The Hunter Region Business Enterprise Centre (HRBEC), located in Kurri Kurri
with outreach offices in Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog and the Upper Hunter Councils,
is an autonomous non-profit organisation set up to provide business assistance
and skills development to new and existing businesses.
The HRBEC was established in 1992 as the Cessnock Business Enterprise Centre
Inc, and in 1994 opened the Maitland Business Enterprise Centre offering support
services to businesses in the local government areas of Cessnock and Maitland.
Growing and progressing over the intervening years, these two centres were recognised
by the community and business people as providers of quality training (through
the NEIS program and other workshops) and practical business support.
In August 1998 the two centres consolidated to form the Lower Hunter Business Enterprise Centre, Inc. which now operates from a new facility in Kurri Kurri. The business centre is strategically located to service the Lower and Upper Hunter region. As a non-profit organisation the HRBEC, in fulfilling its mission, offers Business skills training, business coaching, business services and networking opportunities for individuals and businesses in the process of establishing themselves as ongoing business concerns.
